Why I'm Starting This Blog

I decided to start this blog in an effort to document my journey into a more sustainable and low-waste lifestyle.  There are many things that I have been doing for a couple of years that would be considered low-waste but I have come to realize that there is so much more that can be changed within my own lifestyle to lower my impact on the environment.

A few things that I have already been doing that has greatly reduced the amount of waste that I generate include using a menstrual cup and reusable pads, making and using tooth powder, using shampoo bars that I make, and using reusable grocery bags and produce bags.  I have even recently begun to make my own detangling spray for my hair (which works so much better than anything that I have bought in the past).

There are also many things that I am working on changing to reduce the amount of plastic that I am using.  This is definitely the most difficult thing for me to reduce since I don't have easy access to bulk foods that aren't repackaged (yes, currently my local bulk food store is all repackaged goods in plastic packaging but it is under new ownership and going to be transitioning to a zero-waste shop).  I also eat a vegetarian diet with no diary, so almost vegan, which can make getting some of the foods that I need without plastic extremely difficult.  I am fortunate that I am able to get most of my produce with minimal packaging at all of the stores I shop at already.

I will share recipes and tricks that I have found to be useful in my own life, as well as podcasts and vlogs that I have found to be informative.  Also since I am an avid reader, I will share tips for getting books for free (apart from the local library) which I have found to be the most financially responsible thing for me to do since I was spending a lot of money of books.

I hope that this blog will be informative to anyone that finds it and I will make a effort to show the real life aspects to going low-waste and living the most sustainable life I can.
